Five Core Values
Integrity - forms the foundation of the Boys to Men program. Mentees learn that being a true man means being honest, reliable, and accountable. They are taught that integrity is key to shaping how they are perceived in today’s world. Mentees are guided to value keeping their word and, when they fall short, the importance of taking responsibility to make amends and restore their integrity.
Responsibility – Mentees are taught that they are solely responsible for their actions and choices, whether right or wrong. The responsibility for who they are and the man they will become rests entirely on their own shoulders. Each mentee learns that they determine how they are viewed in today’s world through their actions and decisions.
Accountability – Mentees are encouraged to embrace self-accountability, taking ownership of their thoughts, actions, and emotions. Whether experiencing anger, joy, fear, or confidence, how they respond in each situation is their responsibility. The program emphasizes that each mentee is in charge of managing their own emotions.
Self-Awareness – Mentees learn the importance of recognizing and managing their emotions. While they may not always succeed in controlling their reactions, they become aware of their responsibility to accept the consequences of their actions.
Emotional Articulation – Emotional articulation is a central concept of the program. Mentees are taught coping strategies and how to identify the triggers of their emotional responses. Techniques are introduced to help manage anger, with the goal of reducing the negative consequences they may be accustomed to, such as conflicts with parents, teachers, or school suspensions.
